Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote web server or to exchange information between a web server and a client. As the data exchanged by the 2 sides is protected, a 3rd party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a preferred means of handling a website hosting account. The commands which could be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, for example, the alternatives are limited as you simply won't have root access to the server, so you may just create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so on. They are all actions that are performed inside the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you will be able to install server-side software or to restart the hosting server or only a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, but if you don't employ a UNIX-like Operating System, there are plenty of apps for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Hosting

SSH access may be allowed with a click through the Hepsia Control Panel if the hosting service you have selected provides this feature by default. If not, you may add it through the Add Services/Upgrades section of your Control Panel and enable it instantly. You'll discover all the information that you need inside the SSH section of the Control Panel - the host, the port number and the username which you must use, along with thorough Help articles where we have listed each of the commands you can use inside the account and examples of the syntax you have to use. The SSH password may be modified from the very same section anytime with a couple of clicks. Assuming that SSH access is enabled, you shall also be able to connect safely and securely via an FTP client as well. With an SFTP connection, each of the files you upload will go through an encrypted connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is available as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you may add it through the hosting CP if required - even only for the current month. Either way, you are able to activate and de-activate the function with a single mouse click from the SSH section of the CP. In the same place, you will see the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box in which you can easily enter the password that you'd like to use, because it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better security, you can also change it as often as you require. A full list of the commands which can be executed within a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and a few instances. An extra feature after SSH access is activated shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client that supports this kind of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You shall be able to use SSH to control your content no matter which VPS servers you choose when you sign up, as all our packages provide this function as standard. You won't have to include or enable anything manually - the minute your hosting server is ready and you get the Welcome e mail with the login info, you may connect and begin working on your websites or any software which you want to install and run on the machine. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and because the account will be separated from the other accounts on the physical hosting server, you shall be able to do anything you need without any restrictions. You'll be able to install any application you need and that shall work on a Linux-based server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and manage your files and databases fast and easy.
